Uri's Waterfront Dining-7365 Cedar St. Port Sanilac Mi.

On a recent daytrip to Port Huron. Diane and I did our usual stops at the local Meijer's and Kohl's department stores. As lunch time was nearing- we decided that we would drive north on Highway 25 to Lexington. A very pleasant winding drive! The main street looked fairly quiet- with most hotels closed! With Port Sanilac 15 miles further along the road we decided that we would 'chance' finding a possible lakeside restaurant-cafe. A very small town by description. We made our way to the lakefront. There we found 'Uri's. It serves as the 'hub' for the 'boaters'. With its dining room overlooking the harbor-and the lake beyond. It's a very appealing place -both to eat and watch the the lake freighters going to and from Port Huron. The menu had somthing for everyone. Fresh fish could be had. Michigan Walleye to Alaskan Cod. Pasta dishes were next-followed by build your own Burgers. Diane and I chose 'Irish Blue Nachoes'.All made from local ingredients. Very Very tasty!! For a choice of beer.Diane decided upon Michalob Ultra- while I had a bottle of Bluemoon . Unfortunately Uri's does'nt have beer on tap. But don't let this stop you from dropping by. It's a honest little 'pub' MWD

Lions Head Inn -8 Helen Street Lions Head Ontario

The Lions Head Inn was reccommended to me by a Goderich local Reg Wandsworth. Through conversation with Reg- I learn that he and his family keep a 'small retreat' in the Lions Head area. Reg assured me that 'they serve cold beer'-with more than several to choose from.!! I left Goderich early Saturday morning. And headed north on Highway 21 to Wiarton. This road will take you to Tobermory. About 2o miles north watch for the Lions Head turnoff. The Lions Head Inn was formerly a boarding house and is situated on the main street. There was plenty of parking - my motorcycle was'nt alone this day. This is a favorite place for the 'biking fraternity'. There was a 'indoor-outdoor' patio- which was in full use on such a beautiful day!!! Once in the bar area it was quite impressive-the owners had maintained the old decor. The old tin ceiling was still intact -the orginal cornise work was in place-the old light fixtures. The menu board had 'lunch specials'-from 'New York Cut Steaks' to the 'Best Hamburger' on 'The Bruce Peninsula'. After I looked at the beer menu-a really nice selection. There was both English-Scottish beers on tap!! Along with the locally brewed lagers and ales! For lunch I had Fish& Chips along with a pint of my favorite 'Tennatt's Lager. The summer hours are 11.00 a.m-11.pm-7 day week!! Come and enjoy!!! MWD

Hawgs Breath Saloon 894 Queen Street Kincardine Ont.

The 'Hawgs Breath' pub -[or saloon]. Is on the main street in Kincardine. This business has been a'tradition'for some year's now.I have'frequented' The Hawgs Breath' -on motorcycle day trip's . It was alway's a nice 'waypoint' of which to stop and see what they had on 'tap'. On this particular Saturday night-Diane and I decided to stop in for a 'half'. There was a good 'lively' crowd- 'in the house' . Although small in design- there is seating for perhap's 50-60 people. Diane and I found seats at the bar- ordered our drink's and enjoyed!! Big bin's of peanut's were close by- a nice treat with the beer. There was a nice selection of local- and imported beer's on tap. Along with that was an'appreciable' selection of Single Malt Whisky's!! The food menu did'nt look overly exciting!!! However I may have missed somthing!! This 'pub' is missing a patio.!!! Enjoy MWD

The King's Pearl -Pub& Eatery 71 King St. Tiverton Ontario

The King's Pearl Pub was a 'out of town' 'pub' that I had discovered about two year's ago. It was either due to bad weather-or in the middle of construction' that I did'nt stop in for a pint!! That aside'The King's Pearl is situated at the crossroad in Tiverton on Highway21- Travel north of Kincardine 10 miles .Here is a nicely restored old century home-that was once a bank. And even further back in time a funeral home! On a very chilly Saturday morning. Diane and I set out from Goderich-and arrived in Tiverton for 'a light lunch' We took seats at the Bay Window's-looking at both lunch and beverage menue's .After ordering our drink's. Diane had a Sleeman's Light-and I had a pint of Steamwhistle. We then got a order of Bruschetta[ baguette] that would have quite easily served four people!! The bar menu was mostly 'FingerFood'-chicken wrap's-sandwiches-nacho's.And the ever popular chicken wing's .The manager Donna Hendry was telling us that on the weekends the patio was open -with local entertainment-which saw the parking lot full and over flowing . This is a nice 'little pit' stop for a beer. And I do recommend the Bruschetta !!! Cheer's MWD

The Dam Pub 53 Bruce Street Thornbury Ontario

Just recently, Diane and I were out on a day trip to the Georgian Bay area. Driving north through Flesherton, we approached Thornbury- a 'smallish hamlet' on the road to Collingwood. Ever alert, Diane was the first to 'spy' this 'little gem' - a turn-of-the-century farmhouse, now taking on a new life as a 'local pub'. Very modest in appearance, it needed further investigation .

Once inside we saw a gas fire - great for keeping away the evening chill. We took seats at the bar. A very broad selection of beers both imported and domestic could be found . Diane chose a 'Lite' beer- and I had a Creemore Pilsner. Along with a 'hearty' selection of beer, there was an admirable selection of single malt scotches (over 200!!). Stephanie Price, the 'innkeeper', made several suggestions - her knowledge had me quite impressed. In the end, Diane and I chose 'The Macallan 10 Year Stock' and we weren't disappointed.

We sipped on our Scotch while we waited for our 'Saturday Mussel Madness' - a large order of mussels with Thai coconut sauce served with a sliced baguette - absolutely delicious. (And half price on Saturdays!) The menu has something for everyone and great daily specials. Two bucks off any tap or any bottled beer from 3-5 pm every day as well as fish and chips and sandwich specials. Pub hours are Tues-Sun from 11.30 am.

This is a Great Pub! Get yourself familiar with this place!!!

The Oar House Sports Bar and Grill 666 Wonderland Road London Ontario

This drinking establishment was recommended to me by my very good friend Ivan Steckle! Ivan is a long time Goderich resident- who I know likes to 'partake in the suds' We get together quite often to compare notes- in which he passed on this 'little gem' . Friday night finds me at the Oar House-A large following of 'working guys' in ball caps-Loud background music' Perfect remedy for a Friday night! I noted large barrels of peanuts - Great with cold beer'' A very nice selection of local beer on tap This particular evening I had a Molson Export' . There is quite a 'din' from all of the TVs going- but grab a beer- Then get yourself a'beef on a bun' Remember this is a guys bar'''

Family Restaurant Port Huron

This past weekend Diane and I- along with Diane's sister Kathie Denomy and her husband Jim; spent the weekend in PortHuron . One may call it a mini holiday'' After a early breakfast at the Sunrise Cafe We had stops at the local Meijers store-Walmart-then finally at the Birchwood Mall. Jim and I then sent the Ladies off shopping. At which point we then retired to 'the above said' for some 'liquid refreshment' Upon sitting at the bar' I quickly noticed the beer selections were all limited to Lite Beers I have never drank a Lite Beer in my entire life'''' Add to this there was smoking allowed in the Lounge area' I am an ardent non smoker-No smoking in the food court or in the Mall itself . Yet in this restaurant your free to light up? If your ever in the Birchwood Mall-Take a moment and look past the Family Restaurant'' Mark Duncan

Heidelberg Inn, Ontario

Welcome to the Heidelberg Inn near Kitchener, Ontario. It is a little gem of a brew pub, tucked away in the Mennonite country in Waterloo County. This remarkable little inn features an exceptional microbrewery. There is lots and lots of warm, cozy, old-world appeal - one of the last sorts of brew pubs in this area. The food is old world as well. Think "Germany" and you'll be able to anticipate the menu. Let me tell you this - "Pigs tails and sourkraut" are a big item here! They have live music on weekends and at other times it is a very quiet and cozy wee pub.

So, if you find yourself near Kitchener and want to relax for a bit and enjoy a bit of Germany, stop in to the Heidelberg Inn, enjoy a luscious pint of beer or ale, a bit of very hearty food, and just let the time roll by....

King Edward Pub in Ilderton, Ontario

There's a small side trip for anyone from London, Ontario take a little detour to Ilderton My sweatheart, Diane, and I travelling south from Goderich. If you turn off at Clandeboye, go south several crossroads- t junction head east 1 mile, you will find Ilderton. Up in the town centre The Eddie is on the right it appears like it was an old general store. Diane led the way into the old world ambience. The beer selection is the best in this area. A choice of dark beers, lagers and ales can be had. I'd like to add that the beer is cold. There's a great British menu - everything from 'bangers and mash' to 'fish and chips'. I, having lived in Britain for over 10 years, sure appreciated the fare (not to mention the pints!) So, if you are feeling a desire to experience a nice English
pub and you find yourself near the Canadian London instead of the "real" one......stop in to
the King Edward Pub in Ilderton and enjoy!

Remembering the Past, Looking to the Future

Good evening, my dear Marco! This is my Valentine's gift to you - your very own blog!!

Who could believe it????

Everything I have included here can be easily changed, so don't worry! I just had to put
something in. You can put in anything you like, and I'll show you how to change things on the weekend.

So, you can finally have a chance to be a web-published travel writer!!! Wow. I hope you'll
enjoy writing little stories about your travels around the world, your years in Scotland and
whatever else takes your fancy.

I chose the title because I know you very well, and I know that wherever you have travelled there is a very strong probability that there will have been some pubs and pints involved!

Enjoy! Welcome to the New Millenium!

Love always,

Your Effie
